Welcome to Sacramento! Why are we here?

If you’ve checked out the list of locations for Pilates on Tour 2015, you may have asked yourself how Sacramento managed to make the cut. Simply stated – we’ve spent the last 12 years travelling around the world meeting the incredible Pilates community and we thought it would be amazing to have everyone come and visit us.

Balanced Body is a California company to the core. Our story actually began in Hollywood in 1976, at Ken Endelman’s custom furniture store, when a longtime customer asked Ken to update her Pilates Reformer. One thing led to another and the next thing you know Ken had founded a new company that designed and produced Pilates equipment. In 1980 he moved the business to Sacramento – where his wife Rosalind had landed a job as a librarian at Sacramento State – and they’ve never left. In 1999 Ken changed the name of the company to Balanced Body.

Tower Bridge in SacramentoAs Balanced Body began to introduce more and more mindful movement tools, we saw a need to train instructors on how to use the equipment. Now, in just a little over ten years, more than 24,000 people have taken an educational course with us. But the catalyst behind it all was Pilates on Tour. Designed as an intimate, hands-on vehicle to keep instructors at the top of their game, Pilates on Tour has become the premier continuing education conference in the industry.

And we couldn’t be prouder to host the 75th conference in Sacramento. As the state capitol of California, Sacramento is a diverse and innovative city with a strong emphasis on health, creativity and social responsibility. It sits at the intersection of two major rivers and has a 32 mile multiuse trail running from one side of town to the other. It’s a good fit with our vision, and we think you’ll like it too!

The workshops and workouts will be held at the state-of-the-art Sacramento Convention Center, and we’ll be hosting an exclusive party at our headquarters on Friday evening in celebration of the 75th conference milestone.

Our new 100,000-square-foot energy-efficient headquarters was completed in 2014, and we think they’re a good reflection of our company values. At Balanced Body, we want to leave this world a better place than we found it, so sustainability is extremely important to us. With a thousand solar panels on the roof and efficient insulation and ventilation systems, we keep our carbon footprint as small as possible. We also use only sustainably harvested wood to craft our equipment and recyclable packaging materials to ship it. Almost all our equipment is manufactured here and we can’t wait to show it off!

Like every Pilates on Tour event, the Sacramento conference will feature world-class instructors who are ready to help you learn new exercises, new teaching methods and new ways to grow your business.
